Spring and summer mean more frequent road cycling rides. In the warmer months, some of our favorite rides involve the beautiful national parks and monuments in Utah. More parks are making their trails cycling-friendly ,and we could not be happier. We at Utah Bicycle Lawyers encourage everyone to spend more time on their bikes, so this post points out some of the best options for cycling in Utah national parks. As always, be sure to prepare for these rides with the proper gear and plenty of water.
Cycling in Utah National Parks and Monuments
The road cycling at Canyonlands, called the Island in the Sky Cruise, stretches for 51 miles round-trip. The pavement on the trail is mostly smooth, and carries you around Canyonlands’ beautiful desert landscape. This ride is rather remote, so make sure you have necessary supplies.
This is another round trip ride, just over 48 miles in length. This ride starts and ends in Vernal, so it is not as remote as the Canyonlands ride. The Dinosaur National Monument is a unique park with beautiful scenery and hundreds of fossils of extinct dinosaurs. If you want to bike where dinosaurs roamed, this is the ride for you.
The red rocks and natural wonders here, like Delicate Arch, make for some of the best scenery around. The road cycling trip here is 46.4 miles round trip. The ride is relatively smooth, with climbs and descents. The entry fee to the park is cheaper for bicycles, so you may want to ride into the park from nearby Moab.
Grand Staircase-Escalante is a beautiful combination of green vegetation and gray and red rocks. This round trip ride will keep you pedaling for just over 50 miles. It starts in Kanab, but quickly moves away from the town, so make sure you have any water and food you need before setting out.
The Pa’rus Trail at Zion National Park is one of the shortest routes for cycling in Utah national parks. It stretches for just over 3 miles. Zion, however, is one of the most beautiful parks in the country, so if you are looking for an easy, short ride (perhaps with your family) this is a great option.
