On Friday, April 26th, the Fifth Annual Utah Bike Summit will take place at the University of Utah Guesthouse. this is a huge event wherein bicycle and trail advocates, bike industry representatives, event promoters, city planners, tourism representatives, and local and sate government officials all come together to promote biking in Utah! The theme and focus for this year is “Keep Utah Rolling!” Clever–right??
The Summit will include a keynote address by Tim Blumenthal, the president of a national organization called Bikes Belong, a program that tries to get more people on bikes more often. There will also be a featured round table discussion with representatives from UTA, UDOT, WFRC, MAG and Utah Senator Wayne Niederhauser. There will also be several Dirt Track breakout sessions hosted by Trails Utah.
You definitely won’t want to miss Christensen & Hymas’ own Russ Hymas! That’s right, the man who puts the Hymas after the ampersand, a partner here at the Utah’s premiere accident firm, will be a guest speaker at the Summit, leading a break-out session on cycling laws in Utah. He will also present the new laws that have changed since this year’s legislative session.
The Summit is run by Bike Utah: a non-profit, 501 (c) 3 charitable organization made up of cyclists, bike manufacturers, retail shops, and transit advocates all working to improve cycling conditions in Utah. From their website (http://www.bikeutah.org/about_us): “The mission of Bike Utah is to promote and preserve the safety, opportunities, and responsibilities of cyclists through legislation, education, and facilities development.” So far they have been doing a great job.
